Photoshop Workspace, Tools, and Custom Brushes
Photoshop is an extremely powerful image-editing program. It has become the industry standard among matte artists. A few matte artists use a competing paint program, Corel Painter, but the main emphasis of that program is imitating natural media, or reproducing the look of painting with physical brushes and paint. Because the goal in most matte painting is to produce a photo-realistic scene and not a “painterly” work, I rarely use these tools. There is a lot of overlap between the two programs.
