Taking risks
Day 1, 3.00pm My carriage on the Zurich to Paris
train
Back in economy Conrad was still lecturing poor Anisa. ‘An
investor is someone who has surplus cash and wants to use it to
make even more money.’
‘Or someone who can’t nd anything they want to spend their
money on now!’
I had to laugh at her cheek. I decided to make Anisa my pupil.
‘True. Investment is really about delaying your
spend. Investors postpone parting with their
cash. You could leave your money in a bank but,
to be honest, that’s a little bit of a stupid thing
to do. You’ll get very, very little in return. Do you
ever look at those tiny numbers at the bottom
of your bank statement? They are the insulting
amounts the bank gives you if you are in credit.’
‘What do you advise?’
‘It’s better to buy an investment asset. These come in different
shapes and sizes. It all depends on the risk of the investment.’
Anisa said, ‘I was just reading about risk in Emotional Investment.
‘What does it tell you?’
‘It seems that men are very different from women when it comes to
choosing investments. Especially when it comes to commitment.
