More IT is not the answer

‘Ooh look, you can slide the icon with your fingers! Mmmm, I can pick the colour of the different screens!’ I’ve sat in meetings where otherwise stony-hearted corporate executives have been morphed into excited toddlers by a whizzy technology demonstration.

Hats off to the IT sales guys, but it’s made me realise I don’t want to be the chump on the other side of the table.

The answer to most business problems is not more shiny technology. Having an integrated Customer Relationship Management system won’t streamline your sales process. Scanning all your documents won’t deliver the paperless office. Ten-foot-high teleconference screens won’t give you the same benefits of a face-to-face meeting.
