Today, there is a silent revolution in the embedded market. Most new microcontrollers and application processors that are introduced are based on the ARM® architecture. Recently, we also saw the launch of several new ARM processors. At the low end of the spectrum, the Cortex™-M0+ processor has been introduced for applications which were previously dominated by 8-bit microcontrollers. The new 64-bit Cortex-A50 series processors address the high-end market such as servers. Gartner is forecasting 50 billion devices that are connected to the Internet-of-Things (IoT) in the year 2020 and ARM processors span already the whole application range from sensors to servers.
