The use of motional feedback to improve loudspeaker operation is closely related to active crossover technology. The amplifier is usually physically part of the loudspeaker because it is even more closely coupled than an active crossover system. As described in Chapter 1, you can buy an active crossover and matched loudspeaker from Company A and between them put a power amplifier from Company B; all you have to do is get the gain right.
