Introduction

For years, the BSD family of operating systems has been a popular choice for developers and system administrators. The BSDs provide well-engineered development processes, secure and stable operating systems, well-written documentation, and a license that allows users to freely modify the system to meet their needs. However, it was traditionally difficult for a casual computer user to get started using a BSD system due to an initially steep learning curve.
