Image DAY 347 FASHION & BEAUTY

Natural Lighting and Beauty

A BIT OF OBSCURITY IS A GOOD THING

The model was seated in a tree and the camera was approximately 20 feet away, with branches in the foreground 10 feet from the lens. The soft overall quality of the image was created by shooting though the foliage with a 200mm lens at aperture 2.8 and the ISO 200 at 160/seconds.

Allowing just the right amount of branches to obscure the lens is key. Too much, and the subject will have a gray cast. The exposure was metered for the model’s skin tones and an on-camera flash provided fill flash for the face. —MR
