Use of Light

ACCENTUATING THROUGH CONTRAST

This is a portrait of a professional stunt man. Since he was in such good shape, I wanted to highlight his physique. I did this by increasing the contrast of the photo.

Contrast is created when the main source of light hits the subject from a side other than the front. This is good for showing muscles (but typically bad for beauty shots). For this photo, I placed a reflector in an unnatural place: the ground. It reflected the light from a side of the subject and showcased his fitness and finesse. —TH
