Murals of the Border Wall
LA CIUDAD ESPEJO
Each time I descend the spiraling pedestrian walkway leading from San Diego, California, into Tijuana, Mexico, I find it slightly disorienting, vaguely reminiscent of the meditative labyrinths built into the medieval cathedrals of Europe. The US-Mexico border region, to be sure, is a metaphysically unique space, akin to the “states of non-ordinary reality” explored by Carlos Castaneda and William James alike.
