American Folk Art

THE HEART OF THE PEOPLE

Do you know someone who creates art using found objects, making sculptures for their garden or making paintings with old house paint on plywood? This person may be considered a folk artist. Defined as work by an artist without formal training, folk art is often characterized by a naïve style, festive colors, and simple arrangements with an immediacy of meaning. Reflecting the traditions of small communities, folk art is an art of the people. The melting pot of the United States makes American folk art exceptionally rich and varied.
