Pop Art
MASS CULTURE’S MIRROR
Pop Art, the major movement of the ’60s, held up an affectionate and critical mirror to popular Western culture. By painting taxidermy animals; sewing giant, stuffed ice cream cones; and printing thousands of Campbell’s Tomato Soup can images, pop artists prompted audiences to analyze their own culture and question it—if not just laugh.
