Melting clocks and floating men! Surrealism is preoccupied with dreams, fantasy, and desire. The theories of psychologists Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung encouraged the artists of this movement to work from the subconscious and to create art that perplexes the mind, challenges conventional logic, and questions the reality of appearances.
