Tactile Painting
THE ART OF JOHN BRAMBLITT
John Bramblitt feels the slick, runny texture of the Ivory black oil paint. He adds definition and shadow to a portrait, and then feels for the thick, toothpaste-like consistency of Titanium white. As a blind painter, Bramblitt creates works with a singularly tactile quality.
When two colors feel similar, the artist must add various mediums to the oil paint in order to change its texture. For expediency’s sake, he often arranges his paints according to color, avoiding the trouble of feeling for the necessary hue.
