What Families Give
Gifts can take a million different shapes, from cash or securities to other items, such as homes or businesses, to such intangible but still powerful matters as values, rituals, and reputation. Our aim in this chapter is not to discuss these gifts in depth or to go into the legal complexities surrounding some of them. For those of you who have such technical knowledge, what we say here may serve to add a human element to the experience of giving these gifts. For others, our thoughts may start a path of thinking about gifts you have not considered yet.
