ON THE LONG list of your constitutional and statutory rights to control your own body, one is especially conspicuous by its absence—your right to take a close, careful look deep down inside to find out what exactly you might wish to control. It’s time to add that right to the list. Doing so, as discussed in previous chapters, will democratize access to the information on which all the rest of molecular medicine hinges. That could well have a profound impact on both individual behavior and the political and social factors that shape our health care policies. And it will greatly accelerate the advance of molecular medicine itself.
