Summary

For standard multidimensional analysis within relational data sources, designers should create custom navigation paths that determine the users’ drill path. These navigation paths should ideally separate code or ID objects from description objects. If you do not create these custom navigation paths, the sort order of the objects within each folder is used as the default drill path.

If you have data in an OLAP database, the IDT provides the ability to build a universe that accesses an OLAP data source. This is enabled through the business layer. You can add hierarchies, analysis dimensions, named sets, and measures, just as you would through a normal business layer.
