Creating a Universe for SAP BW

Products such as Web Intelligence, Dashboard Design, and Analysis can connect directly to BEx queries and BW InfoCubes. There is no need to create a universe to use these interfaces. However, you may wish to create a universe in the following cases:

• You want to combine data from other data sources and you don’t want to force users to do this themselves in a report.

• You want to access BW via Explorer and need to create an Information Space based on the universe (see Chapter 28).

• You want to create additional calculations in the business layer.

Creating a Connection to BW

To create a universe that accesses a BW InfoCube, first create a JDBC connection to the InfoCube.
