Universe Design Tool
If you are a long-time SAP BusinessObjects developer, it may be hard to let go of the well-known, familiar Designer. The Designer has changed little in the past ten years. The IDT, meanwhile, was newly developed to address some of the shortcomings of Designer. Designer is still available in version 4.0, as the Universe Design Tool, but primarily as a transition strategy.
Designers new to SAP BusinessObjects should not use the Universe Design Tool and instead use the IDT. Those who support SAP BusinessObjects 3.x users should use the Universe Design Tool only when necessary, as follows:
