Formulas provide a powerful way to take your reporting and analysis even further. SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.0 has added many functions to make your formulas for BEx queries very powerful.
Using functions, calculation contexts, and all the available operators allows you, the report designer, to calculate and display data to meet all the complicated demands of your report users. However, formulas and variables are document-specific, potentially posing a maintenance issue. If you are creating a formula that many documents and users will require, you may want to work with the universe designer to incorporate these formulas as universe objects.
