CHAPTER 10Multisource Universes

Universes that support multiple data sources are a significant new feature in SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.0. Previously, customers could purchase an optional module, Data Federator, which allowed a universe to access multiple data sources. In the IDT in 4.0, federation capabilities are built into the Enterprise server. Data Federation services run on the server to distribute the queries to the different data sources and join results on the mid tier. A multiple-source universe is also used to connect to an SAP BW data source.
