The WBS and the Network Diagram

A WBS is a great first step in identifying the work packages in a project. However, WBS representations don’t graphically display the sequencing relationships between various parts of the project. A WBS shows only the hierarchical relationships between work on the project; you can’t schedule a hierarchy as easily as a sequence. Therefore, you cannot use it to create a schedule or to coordinate work done by different people or resources unless all the activities in a project are sequential, which they rarely are.
