Trying to Satisfy Everyone

Nifty as it is, the Shapley value is not the only “fair” way to try to solve cooperative games. In the same year that Shapley published his work, Donald B. Gillies came up with an idea called the core of a cooperative game.
Remember that individual rationality made sense, and so did efficiency. Gillies asked for one more condition to be satisfied: coalitional, or group, rationality. Gillies wants all coalitions to do at least as well if they play the game along with everyone else as they would on their own.
