High achievers are motivated by the same things average workers are, but they’re also motivated by other factors that might not be so appealing to employees who are content just to meet expectations and call it a day.
Workplace fairness, sufficient compensation, clear appreciation, effective communication at work—those are factors almost everyone desires. Employees who consistently exceed expectations, however, also are attracted to opportunities and situations such as advanced training or the opportunity to be involved in decision making, the very things not-so-motivated employees stay away from whenever possible.
