Document Success with Old Versions of Word

Although most people use Word 2007, there are still some who haven’t upgraded from the previous version. Unfortunately, pre-Word 2007 folks can’t open and read Word 2007 documents (which have .docx extensions). If you’re not sure which version the recruiter or employer is using, it’s best to save your document as Word 97-2003 (which has the .doc extension).

It’s easy to do. Here’s how:
1. Open your resume document (resume.docx).
2. Click the Office button in the upper right corner of your screen.
3. Select Save As.
4. Select Word 97-2003 Document.
5. When the Save As window opens, go to the Save as Type window and select Word 97-2003 Document from the scroll down menu.
6. Click Save.
