Mighty Cover Note on a Resume Website

Almost all resume websites (public job boards like Monster.com, and individual company websites that have career sections) have an opportunity for applicants to insert a cover note. Some sites limit the number of characters you can enter; others will allow you to send a message as long as War and Peace. Here’s what I recommend for your website cover note:
1. Address it: Dear Recruiter.
2. Make a very concise statement as to why you are submitting your resume.
3. Incorporate at least two keywords that define the job you want. Also use the note as an opportunity to include any keywords you didn’t get into your resume. (See Chapter 2 for more about keywords.)
4. Give your contact information.
5. Sign off with ...
