An HTML tag used to provide alternative text for images; this is how searchbots identify the content of image files on a web page.

<META> tag

An HTML tag used to provide various data to searchbots, through the use of the KEYWORDS and DESCRIPTION attributes.

<META> tag stuffing

The act of inserting numerous keywords—and often multiple instances of the same keyword—into the <META> KEYWORDS tag. Inserting too many keywords in this fashion is regarded as black hat behavior by many search engines.
