A face-to-face, in-the-flesh interview not only shows more of you and allows for fuller interaction than an interview mediated by distance, digits, and pixels, it also represents a greater investment in you on the part of the potential employer. By inviting you into her house, as it were, and, if any great distance is involved, paying for your transportation and accommodations, she has already put money on you. Once a person puts money on something, the natural tendency is to protect and promote that investment.
