In general, dress to communicate an impression of reliability and attention to detail. Don’t allow any single article of your outfit to become the subject of attention or discussion. (You, not your clothes, should be the focus of the interview.)
• Be aware that dark colors suggest authority, and that dark blue conveys the greatest degree of authority. (Why else is a police officer’s uniform dark blue?) Black certainly qualifies as dark, but wearing a black suit may strike the interviewer as funereal. Avoid it. (Very dark colors should not be worn for webcam interviews.)
• Don’t bother with synthetic fabrics. They generally have a sheen and texture that make them look cheap—even if they aren’t. Also they don’t “drape” as attractively ...
