Special Shooting Techniques

Macro photography can involve a great deal more than taking pictures of small objects. The full palates of lighting and shooting techniques available to general photographers are also available in the macro world; they are just applied to smaller dimensions.

A bit of preparation was required to create this image of various gears. The first step was fabricating the surface material. I started with a sheet of iron and used a sponge to coat it in vinegar for a few days. Over time the uniform rust texture developed.
