Chapter 23. Connecting Windows Server 2008 to Other Environments

Although a Microsoft-only infrastructure might sound appealing, Windows is often integrated with other platforms, such as UNIX, Linux, or NetWare. This integration can be ongoing, where Windows and the other platforms coexist indefinitely, or might involve migrating from these platforms, which is often the case with NetWare.

The actual level of integration depends on the services needed to share. For example, the integration can be as basic as file sharing but can extend all the way to synchronizing directory services; facilities exist to cover all these integration challenges.
