This book had its genesis in a conversation I had with Eric Tyson, the author of many personal finance titles in the For Dummies line of books. At the time, the global economy was on its back, the national mood was down in the dumps, and the publishing industry was immeasurably challenged, but Eric encouraged me to write this book.

At first, I didn’t think it could fly. I thought that a book about getting rich quickly might win approval, but a book about getting rich slowly, which in the final analysis is what this book is about, surely could not. But fortunately I was wrong.
