The Necessary Ingredients for Successful Change

We have discussed in some depth why the vast majority of change initiatives fail. Let us now look at the subject from the glass-half-full perspective and discuss what we need to do to ensure our change initiative is the one in eight that succeeds.

To deliver change successfully, your people must understand what needs to be achieved and why – and the organisation, at all levels, must be prepared, equipped, aligned and motivated to follow it through to completion. This requires strong and confident leadership engaging with their people in an open, honest, transparent and genuine manner. It requires the leadership to listen. It requires detailed planning and a governance structure and process that are in tune with the culture of the organisation. It also requires the establishment of a culture that is ready to embrace new ways of working.

I also recommend the identification of a ‘Change Catalyst’ to help the leadership stay focused, to enable communication and to ensure the organisation delivers the business outcomes it needs to achieve.
