Frame the “Why?”

Most projects fail to frame the need for change in a meaningful way. If they do justify the need, it’s typically crafted for executive boardrooms, not for the broader organization.

To get support, there must be a shared understanding of the case for change. We must paint the picture – build a sense of urgency.

Start by answering these questions:

  • What do we stand to gain?
  • If we don’t do it, what are the consequences?
  • Which are short-term consequences?
  • Which are long-term consequences?
  • How can we amplify the urgency for change?

Consider your key constituents and frame the need for change in a way that speaks to each of them. Without meaningful framing, the project will struggle to gain traction. It’s that simple. ...
