What criteria should you use to choose your team?

BAD CRITERIA

Role. Choosing people based on title or level does not ensure you have the most influential people. Don’t mistake title for impact. Politics. Placing people on a team to win internal points is a wonderful way to lose points. You want credibility and effectiveness. Availability. Accepting people whose qualifications include “expendable” will mire your team. You need vital, agile, results-focused players. And guess what? So does everyone else.

GOOD CRITERIA

Knowledge, Skill, and Talent. Choose people who know the business. You will know you have the right person if the business doesn’t want to give them up. These people are vital to ...
