Are you striving for success or significance? Both success and significance necessitate living life based on predetermined, worthwhile, personal values. Success often relates to the accumulation of possessions with goals of “having.” Significance is all about impact and influence, with goals of “becoming.” As Erich Fromm says in his seminal work, To Have or to Be?, “Joy comes from giving and sharing, not from hoarding and exploiting.”¹

Goals based on your clearly defined values need to be translated into a specific strategy and then broken down into a practical plan of action. Plans are useless if not acted upon.
