Focus on Behavior

When people are self-motivated, they will compete primarily against themselves. That means they are continually trying to improve over their last best effort. There is no limitation on how much or how well they perform; they won’t coast. Their point of view is that they can always improve. That’s why winners love to be measured. Losers prefer to put in required hours, blame other people and circumstances, or claim to be too busy to keep records. It is important to use measurement for all the people in your organization. Ideally, each person will measure him- or herself. This is the bedrock of creating a positive and high-energy work place.
