Nature Versus Nurture

The debate of nature versus nurture is alive and well. Both have a significant place in understanding why we behave the way we do and how the brain works. Our genetic makeup is very important as it relates to behavior, personality, and longevity. The problem is we don’t choose our parents, so we have no choice in the genes we inherit.

The really exciting news is that our brain has plasticity, the ability to change as a result of experience. This means that how we behave and who we are can change. The most dramatic changes comes in the first few years of our life or as a result of trauma.
