Part Five

Analytical and Simulation Modeling

Cable and telecommunications networks are highly complex, distributed machines that are very expensive to build. In developing new network solutions, many possible pitfalls exist and there are many areas where optimization of cost and performance must be made in order to carry traffic efficiently. However, it is often not possible to test in advance how a new design, or changes to an existing one, will perform under the traffic conditions that will arise in practice. Nevertheless, it is necessary to build confidence into the design by some means.

Analytical and simulation modeling allows computer models to be constructed of the proposed network or system and a range of their characteristic parameters ...
