15  Statistical Analysis and Computer Simulation

Fraidoon Mazda and David K. Hunter

Introduction

Vast quantities of data arise in all areas of telecommunications, especially when evaluating the performance of networks and systems. This chapter describes the more commonly used techniques for presenting and manipulating data to obtain meaningful results, and discusses computer simulation, a common source of data and an important way of modeling telecommunications systems.

Data Presentation

Probably the most common method used to present data is by tables and graphs. For impact, or to convey information quickly, pictograms and bar charts may be used. Pie charts are useful in showing the different proportions of a unit.
