Communes are happy places where everyone pulls together with a common goal in mind, whether it’s growing vegetables or sleeping with one another. (We shouldn’t mention that Charles Manson, who with some of his followers in 1969 slaughtered seven people at the home of actress Sharon Tate, ran a commune on a Spahn Ranch. Manson, by the way, was an aspiring songwriter and according to musician Neil Young, who knew Manson, a record company executive had told Neil, ‘This guy, you know, he’s good. He’s just a little out of control.’1)
