Example 2.1

The program PLBECON has been used to analyze several plates with various shapes and boundary conditions subjected to a uniform load. Results for displacements and stress resultants at certain characteristic points of the plate are shown in Table 2.3 as compared with those obtained from existing analytical or other numerical solutions. The number of employed boundary elements is shown in parentheses. The FEM solutions were obtained using the NASTRAN code with quadrilateral elements (1600 for square plates, 2962 for half-circle plates, 4884 for the elliptic plate, and 4972 for the triangular plate). The results demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the BEM with constant elements for plate bending analysis.
