In this book I will be covering both Linux and Windows. Each one has its strengths and pitfalls. If you’re a Windows user, XP is still the most reliable version even though Vista and Windows 7 have been released. You’ll get the best hardware and software support and the best performance. Vista presents special problems because of its own high hardware requirements—it may bog down your system to the point that you can’t comfortably use it for audio recording, and driver support for many audio devices is immature.
