Chapter . Spitzer Scandal

The Eliot Spitzer scandal came out of left field, to the horror of Americans (and the delight of cartoonists). Federal agents caught New York Governor Spitzer over a wiretap arranging to meet a prostitute named Ashley Dupré; he had spent up to $80,000 on “high-class” prostitutes. Spitzer resigned as governor, with his wife loyally standing by his side, followed by a torrent of headlines and extremely unflattering cartoons. Dupré tried to leverage the attention to further her singing career. It is a cartoonist’s dream that every politician has a secret as dark as Eliot Spitzer and a MySpace page as entertaining as Ashley Dupré’s.
