Chapter . Imus!
All eyes were on Don Imus this year after the controversial radio host called the Rutger’s University women’s basketball team a bunch of “nappy-headed hoes” on the air. Imus claimed he meant nothing serious by the comment and that he was just using hip-hop lingo, but there was nothing funny about Imus’ jokes. NBC agreed that Imus had stooped too low in his criticism of a bunch of hard-working college students, kicking Imus off the radio – then agreeing to a $20 million settlement of his contract. As the country argued over the real meaning of free speech and political correctness, cartoonists played out the debate with their depictions of over-the-hill, cowboy-headed Imus.
