I have formed a number of lasting relationships by taking care of clients when they were unemployed. Anyone can be a fair-weather friend, but if an account executive takes you out to lunch when you are unemployed, you don’t have a budget, and he or she has little or nothing to gain by socializing with you, you would likely remember that person when you are back on top. You would realize that he or she is being kind. And think about it—no client is ever out of the picture completely.
