Micro Editing for Grammar and Usage

 

At first glance, micro editing may not seem as important or as fun as macro editing. Instead of dealing with the big, important problems of a story, micro editing focuses on checking for correct grammar and usage, making the mechanics conform to local and wire-service stylebooks, fixing spelling errors and typos, and tightening the wording.

Although many might consider micro editing to be an obsession with picky, little details, if the details aren’t correct, they distract from what is important—the information the writer is trying to get across.
