MIDDLE EAST AND NORTH AFRICA (MENA)

Between 2003 and 2008 the MENA region grew 5.7% on average. With regional growth of 1.4% in 2009, the region was resilient compared to other regions of the world (the only more resilient region was emerging Asia), but still exceptionally challenging as many key markets sharply deteriorated.

MENA recovered in 2010 and grew an estimated 4.1%. 2010 was a good year for business recovery. In 2011, regional business was surprisingly good despite the Arab Spring, as suddenly higher oil prices accelerated growth in hydrocarbon-exporting economies.
