In a networking context, bridges may indeed be the greatest invention since sliced bread.[] However, they are not without their limitations. All of the discussions in earlier chapters made the assumption that the underlying topology could support bridge operation. In this chapter, we consider the topological restrictions imposed by the use of bridges and the means by which we can implement and enforce these restrictions.
