When I attended California State University at Long Beach, I was an avid follower and fan of Marshall McLuhan, author of such classics as The Global Village and The Medium Is the Message. McLuhan stated that we live in a rearview mirror world.

What did he mean? He meant that we don’t know where we are; we only know where we have been. As we live our lives, we tend to make decisions based on where we have been, not where we are, and certainly not on where we are going. Do you want to know how scary a thought that is?
