Chapter 14. Media’s Slow Death: The End of Marketing As We Know It

I was watching the six o’clock news, surfing with my remote control among CBS, ABC, and NBC. Watching television and channel surfing is a very Boomer thing. Boomers and television grew up at the same time. We are joined at the hip. The news is important to me because, after all, it is The Fourth Estate. The name was coined long ago in England, signifying that the press was an important fourth part of government representing the people. The press keeps government honest. It is one more element in our wonderful system of checks and balances here in the United States.
